This week I have been mostly…

Feeling jolly. Yup, I’ve been rocking the Christmas tunes. In my continued quest for a joyuex noel I’ve been playing all the xmassy songs that give me the good feels.

Ok, let’s get cheesy. Mariah is so not my style, but who doesn’t love her festive offering? I have been singing along & thinking about someone dreamy since my school days. Some of those objects of my affection make me blush to remember. The song, however, remains untarnished.

You know, I’m not even entirely sure that Mull of Kintyre is a Christmas song, but I always play it at this time of year. Now, maybe it’s because I’m Scottish or perhaps it’s my soft spot for Paul, but it swells my heart. It’s a song that makes me think of home & family & love. I suppose that’s what Christmas means for me.

John Lennon’s Christmas isn’t your standard merry track. It does, however  have that ‘make you think’ quality. I think this tune was probably easier to love in my youth when accomplishments stacked up with ease. These days when I think about what I’ve done in the preceding 12 months I often worry I’ve come up wanting. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be Xmas with John & sadly his message remains salient.

I have saved the best for last. Not the most original choice, but one that is dear to my heart. The Pogues & Kirsty McColl’s bittersweet tale of love in the big apple hits my spot. That chorus fills me with seasonal warmth & those lyrics, oh the lyrics.

‘ you took my dreams from me

when I first found you.

I kept them with me babe

I put them with my own

can’t make it all alone

I’ve built my dreams around you.’

They’re almost enough to make me consider kissing Shane McGowan.

Snow is falling…

I’m diving into the festive spirit this year. Love & sparkle & food & presents are exactly what I need. I’d like to finish this dodgy year on a high point & so, I am immersing myself in all things joyous.

First up, my nails. I don’t mind telling you my normally pretty talons have been looking a tad shabby of late. Not anymore; they are now shiny & bejewelled. How can my joy quota not be upped when I have diamontes shimmering on my fingers.

Unfortunately doing your nails whilst incredibly sleep deprived can sometimes make your snowflakes go a wee bit spider webby. It matters not, they’re still cute & I am one step closer to Santa.

It’s coming on Christmas….

I’m beginning to feel quite festive. Being the superwoman that I am, I finished buying gifts weeks ago. So, now it’s time to turn my attention on myself. Beware, I’m about to get all wanty.

When buying presents this year I wanted to select really personal items & I think I’ve done well. I thought I’d use the same theory on my self & sought out some quirky trinkets.

Swing when you’re winning…

I had a little thing on Monday evening. I did my hair all pretty, but then made the foolish mistake of going out in the wind & rain. I returned home with hair that looked like a hedge. I did a last minute rethink & pimped my bun with some fresh flowers. Let me tell, flowers in your hair make you feel awesome.

I stuck with the floral theme & wore my swing dress. It was a gift from someone lovely & I felt lovely wearing it. I have sort of stumbled into the 50’s look by accident. I must say I have zero regrets. I’m too fickle to devote myself to one style full time, but I’ll certainly be exploring this more.

Looking at the Autumn shade…

Last Saturday I was feeling a touch of cabin fever. So, I made myself look as presentable as possible & popped out to see a film.  Sold out movie & other cinema fails put paid to that plan. Hence, we retreated to Starbucks & had a nice long gab.

I took some pictures thinking they’d be   useless, but it turns out I didn’t look quite as rough as I thought. It’s jumper dress time again & this one combines my fav colour with my go to style. Teamed with my new boots it’s the ideal Autumn ensemble.

Hey baby, can you bleed like me…

So, Halloween is nearly upon us. I love a bit spooky fun, but this year I’ll be having a fairly quiet night. I have opted to watch some scary movies & hand out sweets to any wee trick or treaters that knock on my door. This means I won’t have an opportunity to dress up, but I do plan to tart my house up with creepy decorations. I also couln’f resist the temptation to give myself a seasonal manicure.

It’s been a while since I’ve done any real nail art; these nails have definitely got me back in the mood. I kept it fairly simple, but I’m chuffed with the results. I hope you all have a weird & whacky Halloween.

She’s so cold…

Oh man, it is cold. This will be my constant refrain until next summer (if we get one). So, if I have to be freezing for months on end I’ll be doing it in style. Enter my chilly wish list.

I am still enthralled by velvet, but camel & faux fur are quickly creepy into affections. I’m dreaming of a soft & warm winter; with a tiny wee splash of glamour.

To me you are a work of art….

Apologies for my sporadic blogging. My body is really trolling me at the moment, which means I’ve had to be really careful how I use my spoons. this post covers a day out from weeks ago. Better late than never, eh?

Ever since the neon went up on The Gallert of Modern Art I have been dying to check out the exhibition of work from Glasgow School of Art. There were some stunning pieces. My particular favourite was this painting by Victoria Morton.

I was also rather fond on the mirrored handbags in this piece.

I can never visit GoMA without taking pictures in the mirrored entrance. I really love this one, even though my Dad appears to have lost his head.

I’ve been searching for the right pinafore type dress for months, finally I found it. I’ll be able to style this piece a million ways, which pleases me. I foresee it being an autumn/winter favourite.
