A little something to make me sweeter….

I had a bit of a rest last week. I had been very busy the preceding weeks & my poor wonky body was feeling the strain. As a result I didn’t get the chance to take any OOTD pictures. I did however procure a number of treats designed to make me feel lovely.

There is no better treat than a free treat, so I shall start off with my first freebie (courtesy of a dreaded glossy mag). Balance Me Super Moisturising body wash is exactly what I need at the moment. I have been slathering on copious amounts & my skin is feeling better.

My next pick me up was a fabulous bargain. I am very fond of big, shiny faux engagement rings. I found this sparkling ‘ruby’ on eBay & had to have it.

I was lucky enough to receive a 2nd freebie last week. This time some smart glasses from SpecSavers. If you get your contacts from them & sign up to a direct debit they offer you a free pair of specs. It’s a great deal. I picked these round tortoiseshell frames. They are actually from the men’s section, but I love them. I wanted something completely different to my usual style & these fit the bill perfectly.

My final little delight was actually a Christmas gift. My lovely almost brother in law surprised me with his present buying talents when I opened this Molton Brown candle. I had lit it before, but really appreciated it’s calming scent over the last few days. It’s called Imp’s Whisper, which is a name that pleases me. With hints of lavender, tobacco & vetyver grass it is the perfect soothing scent.

I would be good…..

So, here it is, the obligatory New Year’s resolution post. I doubt it will surprise anyone to learn that I will not be worrying about any of the dieting bullshit. In fact I shall be trying my best to eschew all negative, body policing type thoughts. My focus shall be on enjoying life & challenging myself in positive ways.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2015/01/img_1578.png

Living with chronic illness can make seizing the moment difficult. Sometimes I really am too sick to do anything, no matter how amazing the opportunity. This year I have decided I will try to be a bit more strategic about my day to day life. I’m hopeful that simple changes such as keeping track of how much sleep I’m getting, taking gentle excercise when I feel up to it & keeping up with my food diary will ease managing my illnesses. I have also resolved to make bigger changes for instance trying a gluten & dairy free diet & pushing my consultants to make a care plan of sorts instead of just constantly adjusting/altering meds. Of course none of these things will cure me, but perhaps a change in diet, being conscious of getting enough rest & so on will improve my symptoms somewhat. At the very least I will feel more in control & I am big on control!

That time of year can be a nightmare for fat folk. Everywhere you look there are diets & fitness regimes. Friends, magazines & celebs alike insisting we must lose any xmas weight gain, pushing us to aspire to a ‘new you’ for a new year. Well, I am hoping for a slightly new me, but it has nothing to do with my weight. I am striving to block it all out completely. I no longer want to think of myself in terms of fat/thin. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you will know I have already come a long way on the body acceptance trail, now I want to consolidate that. I don’t want to waste energy worrying about weight loss (through ill health) or any future weight gain. My plan is to divest my identity of it’s link to my size. I will be me wether I am a size 22 or 12. My writing, opinions, talents & interests will remain unchanged. This is the message I hope to drive home.

On the challenging front I want to push myself in healthy ways. Instead of berating myself or being
weighed down by guilt, I plan to make it ok for me to be unable to achieve certain things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not giving myself permission to stagnate. In fact, the opposite, by stretching myself to try things I worry will be too much, I will perhaps surprise myself. However, if I prove unable, I refuse to beat myself up. With a bit of luck this approach may help me extend my freelance work & possibly even branch off in new directions.

Finally, I aim to have as much fun as possible. I will see friends & family as often as I can. Try new activities, even if they scare me or I am rubbish at them! I don’t want to deny myself anything that will make me happy. Be that expensive shoes, a man, a big cake or a day in bed.

2015 is my year to get living.

Another year over, a new one just begun….

This year we suspended Hogmanay to focus our full attention on my beautiful sister’s 30th. My baby sister said goodbye to her roaring twenties with a very extravagant gatsby esque celebration. From champagne towers to dancing on the bar, it was absolutely the party of the year.

I wanted a really decadent dress with a taste of the flapper style. When I saw this Lovedrobe sequinned affair on the New Look website I knew it was the one. It jumped straight onto my wish list & in a very short time span, my wardrobe. A girl has to treat herself when her youngest sibling turns 30, if only to mask the panic of how old you feel. Needless to say I had a fantastic time as did everyone else.
I hope you all had a wonderful new year & all the best for 2015!

Cold as ice…..

In the quiet time between xmas & new year my sister & I took advantage of a crisp, bright day to take Seb for a nice long walk. We of course also found time for a spot of outfit photography. It was a lovely day, but still very cold, hence I wrapped up warm in my ‘sleeping bag’ coat. It’s not the most glamorous outerwear, but it’s oh so cosy.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2015/01/img_1564.png

This wool skater dress is also perfect for a winter walk. It’s delightfully comfortable plus lovely & warm. The autumnal/wintery colour palettes have long been my favourites, but any yellow tones have been particularly taking my fancy of late. This mustard colour gives an additional impression of warmth. It’s a top cold weather dress.

I was in a crazy rush getting ready that day & just flung my hair up. Without knowing how, I constructed lovely voluminous bun. Of course all attempts to recreate it have failed miserably.

Sale of the century …..

I haven’t had much of a chance to check out all the high street sales yet, but I did find the time peruse the Asos sale. And what a sale it was. So many adorable things for hardly any pennies. I’ve placed my first order, but I have more items saved for later, which are likely to end up in my already over stuffed wardrobe.

These are the beauties I am awaiting.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2014/12/img_1392.png
I’ve not really been a fan of the duster coat trend, but this one spoke to me (it said ‘buy me’).

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2014/12/img_1393.png
I’ve been prevaricating about sheer for a while now. I’ve seen lots of folk look awesome in it, but was concerned the scars on my tum would be visible. Well, the long & the short of it is, I said ‘fuck it’. Can’t wait to rock this.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2015/01/img_1394.png
This is standard choice for me. All things red must be mine & this style of dress is uber flattering on me. It’s wool, so should help me through some cold days.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/20f/30616662/files/2015/01/img_1395.png
I only ordered the trousers. I don’t really have use for another floral type jacket. I desperately wanted palazzo pants all summer, but couldn’t find a plus size pair I both liked aesthetically & felt good in. I know these are out of season, but I shall save them for summer. Or with a bit of luck I’ll wear then on my next Aussie trip.

Last & most definitely best is this leather look jacket. You may remember my failed search for the perfect leatherish jacket, well failed no more! This is right in every single way, it even has some yearned for faux fur. I need this on my body ASAP.

Thanks Asos Curve I love you & your fabulous fat clothes!

The fire is so delightful….

We popped over to Dad’s on xmas eve & I took the opportunity to have an ootd pic by his festive fireplace. Dad always has lovely decorations & a very tasty selection of nibbly bits at Christmas time. Obviously a pretty dress was required for the occasion.

I decided to drift away from the traditional xmassy colour palette & opted for this rose print skater dress. I am feeling strangely drawn to all things yellow at the moment, which led me to the dress with this vibrant cardigan. I love the way it brings out the yellow in the dress, whilst simultaneously makes the purple tones really pop. I suspect my Dad is often bemused by my style choices, I thought I’d give him a xmas treat by putting my spin on one of his sartorial favourites. Enter my burgundy patent brogues & the most shoe compliments I have ever received from my Father. Great minds think alike, Daddy cool !

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time….

Merry Christmas!
I hope you all had a wonderful time. It’s been a bumper yultide for me & mine, loads of food, fizz, family & friends. I love the festive season & the opportunities it provides to let those you love know how much they mean to you. By the wonder of facetime I even got to watch my niece open her presents in brisbane, nothing can beat the look on her face as she discovers she’s been given all the things she’s been hoping for.

Talking of presents, I have also been a very lucky girl. My family & friends proved once again how well they know me by buying me the perfect gifts. There are a lot of ticks on my wish list & I am one happy lady.

First from my wish list was an early xmas treat from the lovely people at Bonmarche. As you know I desperately wanted something gorgeous & velvet to adorn myself in, this dress was exactly right. The midnight blue colour is so perfect, the fabric so soft & the fit oh so flattering. I felt amazing in this dress.

I have actually never shopped at Bonmarche before, but had heard good things, about their plus size dresses in particular. After perusing their website I suspect that some of their ranges are aimed at a slighter more mature woman. Having said that I saw several dresses that I would rock and some faux fur jackets that are to die for. Considering I not only looked super sexy in this dress, but it was also as comfortable as my birthday suit, I will definitely be adding the Bonmarche website to my bookmarks.

Bonmarche also sent me some pretty accessories, which will be featuring in another excellent post incredibly soon.

Another slightly early xmas present arrived in a suspiciously shoe box shaped package. Sure enough when I tore it open nestled inside were the most beautiful shoes ever created. Someone clearly read this blog & liked the idea of having me at their beck and call. I am madly in love with these beauties. Should they ever change the law, I may well marry them.

Last, but not least my darling sister got me this shiny & sleek clutch that she spied on my wish list. Lauren also cooked us all a delicious Christmas dinner, including the cutest dessert ever amp; clearly my little sis has been hiding her culinary skills. Now that her secret’s out she can expect me over for dinner much more often.

All of my people gave me marvellous pressies & I appreciate every single one. However, the finest thing in my life is undoubtedly belonging to my warm, loyal & hilarious family. The fact that I’ve been able to add to that family with my magnificent friends probably makes me more fortunate than I deserve to be. So, I’ll leave you with some snaps of our Christmas because I believe this is what it’s all about.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

I have been so on top of organising Christmas this year that there hasn’t been much call for going into town or rushing around shops. Consequently I have missed all the seasonal sparkle & Christmas tunes. In the past week I have rectified that & now feel thoroughly festive.
Having seen the delights of both Glasgow & Edinburgh’s city centre I set to work on creating my own little joyeux noël. With the tree up, presents wrapped, lights festooned & glitter candles in abundance there was only one thing left to do, Christmas manicure!

This is the first of many festive nail
designs. I’m rather pleased with these, I hope you like them too.

You’re hot then you’re cold….

I had to take a trip into town on Thursday & was faced with my usual winter problem. Bitterly cold outside & sauna hot in all of the shops. Why can’t shops turn down their heating? They know we’ll all have coats on.
Anyway, I opted for the chunkiest, cosiest best cardigan in the world. I have been dying to try out this fluffy skirt since I bought it, but haven’t been sure what to wear with it. I tried a hard and soft thing with the leather look leggings. I also debuted my shiny patent brogues. I love the colour, but I think they make my feet look really big. What do you think?
We took the pictures at one of my favourite places in Glasgow, The Gallery of Modern Art.

I get a little warm in my heart when I think of winter…

Saturday was one of those perfect winter days. The air was crisp, no sign of rain & cold enough to wrap up without fear of freezing your arse off. So, when my sister suggested taking her lovely Seb for a walk I jumped at the chance. I have actually been missing the Sebster, so it was nice to get a look at his handsome face. We decided to head to Pollok Country Park, which is an amazing piece of country right in th middle of the city. It’s also home to the Burrell Collection, a herd of highland cattle,Maxwell house as well as dozens of woodland walks. In short it was perfect for Seb to roam free & for us to get some cool blog photos.

This is a new look for me. I’ve always been very self conscious about leggings & worn with either skirts or tunics. This skeleton pair are crying out to have all their bones exposed, so I stepped out of my comfort zone. I mostly wanted to be comfortable and cosy for our walk. With this in mind I teemed the leggings with my Ghostbusters t-shirt (a childhood fav), layered cardigans & a scarf. My trusty sparkly boots stood me in good stead in the mucky park.

I have to say I am chuffed with these pictures. I am loving this fun casual look so much that I may well invest in some more statement leggings.
