Woman of the week…

This week’s celebrated woman is someone I have the pleasure of knowing. She is a bopo goddess, a thrifting maven, accomplished public speaker & possibly the bubbliest person I’ve ever met. Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you Hayley Angell.

I met Hayley at a blogger event in Glasgow & was instantly impressed by her vintage look. I was also a little intimated by her polished confidence. I don’t find these events very easy. I have a lot of anxiety around new people & situations. I have even more anxiety about hiding my discomfort. The moment I spoke to Hayley I felt more at ease. Her sincere warmth allowed me to collect myself & have a good time.

Taking Shape blogger event, Glasgow

I obviously immediately commenced following her on social media and have done so since. Hayley’s accounts are bursting with life affirming energy. Her honesty about her body positive journey; discarding control garments, trying new activities & generally enjoying her body is inspiring. She recently discussed her experiences as a plus size women taking burlesque classes. Despite outward proclamations of inclusivity she still felt it was assumed that fat women would be less assured. She got the sense that fatter folk were quietly ushered into the background. It takes guts to be open about this stuff. Even more to be honest about how often we convince ourselves that we belong at the back of class. Thus, she used her Instagram account to launch #stepforward a reminder to all plus size people that we are worthy of taking up space & being seen.

The Body Positive community has given me so much. I always want to say thank you to those who inspire me. I also want to spread their work because I know it can bring others happiness. Hayley is one of those fabulous women who can help you change how you see yourself. She is an insta must follow.

Bopo aside Hayley is, as I mentioned, a thrifting magician. Her Instagram is worth following for her second hand style alone. If you need tips on trawling the charity shops for fashion gold, Hayley is your woman. If you simply enjoy seeing a person enjoy themselves & clothes, she is still your gal.

I’ve only met Hayley in person once, but I would not be without her online presence in my life. For a shot of genuine self love, go press those follow buttons.

Spoonie tour guide is go…

Last week my sis in law’s nephew was visiting from Australia. He is making good use of his youth & doing a little travelling. His epic trip takes him around Europe before hitting the south of Africa & then stopping off in UAE on the way back down under. Obviously we wanted to show our visiting family a good time. Thus, the spoonie tour guide & another week in pictures was born.

Since Simon’s mum & aunts had spent happy years in Glasgow he wanted to have a good look around. My brother & niece are also cheerleaders for our fair city, so we didn’t want to let the side down. First stop was Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. Kelvingrove is one of my favourite places. An impressive collection of varied exhibits housed in a stunning building, which itself sits in a beautiful park. Simon was impressed with the architecture & variety. I was delighted to get reacquainted with my favourite Lowry, some early body positive art & a really old tree.

We capped of Kelvingrove with a quick walk in the park. After saying hello to some very friendly squirrels we were joined by my mum & sister for a bite to eat. Special mention for Brewdogs’s vegan hotdog. Yummers.

Glasgow Xmas lights

Pitch black & freezing by half 5 isn’t ideal for visitors used to a warmer climate, but it does show off the Christmas lights to perfection. I swear Fraser’s add more lights every year. I’m not complaining, I’m a sucker for a twinkly light. Argyle arcade is getting in on the action too. We thought this looked like a very festive cat. What do you think?

In between excursions I squeezed in a date night with the Toyboy. Wagamama’a vegan pad Thai & The Death of Stalin are getting a big thumbs up. They are respectively delicious & hilarious. The TB agreed. I also found a little time to beautify my nails & spread some #ProjectPostIt wisdom.

Project post it

On Wednesday we took a day trip to Edinburgh. Simon was really keen to see the castle (his first) & it didn’t disappoint. We were really lucky to get fresh, clear day. The views from the castle were spectacular.

I hadn’t been inside the castle since I was a child, but was pleasantly surprised. The buildings are amazing & the restoration inside is really well done. There are are so many little details that are so well done. It’s crazy to peer out of windows & realise much of what you’re looking is as it was hundreds of years ago.

We met this fine unicorn fella & his lion friend keeping watch outside the National War Memorial. Plus discovered this cemetery for soldier’s dogs. R.I.P. puppers.

Importantly,  our castle visit finally bestowed upon me the recognition I deserve. I am Scotland’s Crown Jewels.

With temperatures dropping we got Simon inside for some food. Then had a quick mess around with the mirrors at the camera obscura. This is a fab attraction that we sadly didn’t have time for, but it’s definitely worth a visit. A quick glimpse at more Xmas lights warmed our hearts before we headed back west.

On his last full day in Scotland we took our intrepid traveller to Loch Lomond. What better spot to show off our country than on the Bonnie, Bonnie banks?

The view from Luss pier is divine. The village is lovely, the pub has a real fire & hearty fare. We couldn’t ask for more.

We got back into town with just enough time to check out the Xmas market, more lights & gorge ourselves in the swanky Atlantic Line.

As much fun as I had during my stint as a spoonie tour guide, it wore me out. Thus a weekend in my jammies with this pair was in order. There is a lot to be said for hot baths, cuddles & carry on.

‘Cos it’s raining….

I’ve been waiting to do my summer Wishlist for a while. I kept hoping summer would come back.  As it’s now July, i’ve resigned myself to the fact that the sun has left me for good.

For my Scottish summer picks I’m going for light fabrics that can be easily layered. So, lots of dresses, soft shirts & the occasional piece to fancy things up. I have also slipt in some items that I want for my next Australia trip. Brisbane never lets me down on the heat factor.

Asos Curve, Club L Lounge.

Club L Lounge, Yours.

Yes, that is a dress with a hood; come to Mama. This season I seem to attracted to neutral & bright tones in equal measures. Fabric wise the concensus is tactile & super soft.

Forever21, Lindy Bop, Simply Be.

Club L Lounge, Asos Curve, Simply Be.

I’m loving splits & dip hems. Leggings are of course an essential when it might be really nippy outside. As always I will be playing with retro & contemporay styles. I have been desperately seeking a pretty bralet that can handle my boobs & I’m hoping this is the one. I’m thinking in Brisbane I can rock this on it’s own & here layer under a sheer shirt.

Monsoon, Forever21, New Look.

Irregular Choice, Asos Curve, Asos Curve.

Florals & hippy chick lace spell out summer to me. I really can’t wait to get to Oz to float around with my Muffin in these.

M&S, Alice & You.

Simply Be, Forever21.

Asos Curve, Club L Lounge.

New Look, Asos Curve, Converse.

Yellow converse will add a pop to any outfit. As will the caged bra lingerie. I love the bondage light look, it’s always fun when your underwear can double as outerwear!

There you have it. My most desired items for this summer. Now it’s time to get buying. Look out for which pieces make it into my body.

Oh & I have a new pink lipstick & a pretty rose gold nose ring. Aren’t I a lucky girl?

Because I’m happy….

My oldest brother & beautiful niece arrived home from Australia a week ago. They are visiting for my other brother’s wedding. Needless to say, I am ecstatic & have been spending every possible moment with my girl. There is just no time for blogging when the most incredible little person ever created is on the loose. Here’s a little taste of our adventures so far.

Stay tuned for my all out 50’s wedding ensemble.

Isn’t she pretty in pink ?…..

A combination of being rather busy & rather ill has led me to neglect my lovely blog. I finally managed to get out & about this weekend. I even indulged in a little shopping & put some slap on. So, stay tuned for a new outfit post. In the meantime I thought I would do another shoe & accessory post.
First up are these cute irregular choice kitten heels. These shoes are atypical for me due to both their style & colour. A kitten heel is not very me. They’re a little too dainty for my liking. Likewise pink is so not my colour. Having said that, these are adorable shoes. I bought them for an event I attended with my godson. That social circle was very yummy mummy heavy & I wanted to look good whilst also being able to run around with the little ones. Hence, the teeny tiny heel. These have become my important meeting shoes as the ensure I don’t fall over & the cheeky little tortoises always boost my confidence.

Next up is a fabulous gift from my little sister. She brought this gem back from Australia & I adore it. It is an actual orchid preserved in lacquer & used to create a ring. It’s stunning.

And finally, what better to finish on than another pair of irregular choice. In case you hadn’t notice these are my favourite shoe brand ever. This pair combines colour & texture to great effect. The gold & purple brocade combined with the satin ribbon & gorgeous velvet inner add up to really luxurious feeling shoe. Of course the fact that they are utterly beautiful goes without saying.

Shiny happy people….

I thought since Australia was such a big influence on my new outlook that I’d do one more Brisbane outfit. I’ve had this maxi dress for a few years, but have never managed to get much wear out of it in Glasgow. It’s the sort of garment that requires sunshine, something we are sadly lacking in here. It was one of the first items in my suitcase & I was eager to wear it.

Dress –  Gift

Vest – H&M

Sunglasses – Topshop

Satchel – Target

I’ve always been a hippie chick meaning this multi coloured tie dyesque design is right up my street. It has some cute beaded details under the bust & on the straps, which I’m fond of. The halter neck is a gift for those if us who have been blessed in the breast department. It holds them firmly in place giving a great silhouette. The halter does also mean it is a tad too booby, but that’s easily solved by popping a vest underneath.

In short this dress is very bold & funky. Just like me.

Here are some shots from Brisbane. Happy memories.

I stayed at a hotel right in the middle of the city for a few days & I used to eat sushi in this square. You can’t get a proper idea of it from this picture, but it was a gorgeous mix of old & new architecture.

I’m going where the sun keeps shining….

I put on a very cute outfit yesterday & planned to have my sister take some pictures whilst we were walking her dog. Unfortunately, Glasgow’s weather thought differently, it poured down the entire time we were out.
So, I thought I’d share an outfit I wore on my recent trip to Brisbane; where the weather can always be replied upon.
I loved the freedom I had in Australia. It was always going to be hot & I had only nice things to do. This meant I could have fun with my clothes. I went for a lot of bright, girly & floaty dresses. This is me enjoying the sun & the view on my brother’s deck. I can’t wait to get back there.

I love everything about this dress. It’s from forever 21, (who’s plus size range I would definitely recommended ). I’ve always been a big fan of the dip hem and have been very pleased to see it pop up again. The cut & fabric of this dress means it shows your shape without clinging too much. I always feel very sexy in it. Last, but not least it’s a perfect dreamy blue, just right for bright sunny days.
