Give a little more…

Christmas is a time for giving and this year there is so much need. It’s really difficult to decide where to put my money because we’re all surrounded by deep suffering. My donations can sometimes feel inadequate, but if we all give a little it can become a lot.

I started close to home with Crookston Community Group. They operate a food bank for local people and of course are needed more than ever. I came across their Donate a Pound campaign on social media and of course I wanted to help. I am sure your local Foodbank is in need of donations too, but if you want you could also donate to Crookston. All those £’s add up.

The Willows Cat Hotel is part of Willow Animal Sanctuary. The specialise in taking cats who are not house trained or have issues that means no other facility will take them. They offer these cats a safe warm place to live, food and proper veterinary care. Whilst still allowing them roam the grounds & be independent. I love that there is a place for cats that everyone else has given up on. You can Sponsor a cat, make a donation to the cat hotel or to the sanctuary’s work.

Sleep Pod provide emergency tents for homeless people in extreme weather. We all know how cold it gets out there in the winter. It is appalling that so many people are without safe homes, but since that is the situation we find ourselves in, these tents save lives. You can make a donation here to help sleep pod provide them.

I understand that finances are stretched. Please look after yourself first. If you afford to make a donation, that would be wonderful.

Baby love…

This month I’m supporting (& urging you to follow suit) Birth, Baby & Beyond. They are an incredible charity who have lost funding and are even more in need of donations than ever.

Birth, Baby & Beyond provide starter packs for families living in poverty. They ensure that families have the essentials that children require. B, B & B are one that few places that parents can source baby formula as food banks are not allowed to stock it. They really are a vital service. They also operate a second hand children’s goods and clothing shop; reducing waste whilst helping families. Unfortunately their latest finding application has been rejected by Glasgow City Council. Without alternative funding they will be forced to close their shop.

If you can manage even small donation it would have a huge impact on the charity and the people they support. Please give if possible.

And his hunger burns…

I already shared my October Charity of the month, but this week’s Tory bullshit has compelled another post.

I cannot bear the thought of children (or anyone) going hungry. It makes me feel sick, enraged and teary all at the same time. It would never be ok, but it’s worse when we can absolutely afford to care for those in need. Further compounded by the fact that our government has created this poverty. A decade of austerity has hit those with the least hardest. I cannot fathom the cruelty of voting to withhold food from poor children.

We can help. We shouldn’t have to shoulder the responsibility that a morally bankrupt Conservative government refuses to carry. However, the alternative is to allow children to starve. If you can spare a few pounds please consider donating to your local foodbank. You can also add food/toiletries to collection boxes in many supermarkets, drop off at foodbank centres or have items collected.

You can give to Trussle Trust in a variety of ways, all of which are detailed here.

Typical food parcels contain the following:

I also like to consider things like dietary requirements (gluten free, dairy free etc) and add treats. Surviving on food parcels is tough, little luxuries go a long way. With Halloween & Christmas on the horizon I think it’s especially important to donate some sweets or small gifts. Little ones should always be allowed to indulge in a some magic.
