Painted it red…

I don’t have any fancy plans, so my Valentine’s outfit is casual, but still kind of sexy. It’s funky pattern & curve hugging are right up my street.

What better way to add some love to a look than velvety red lipstick, very cute heart shoes & some valebtine’s nail art? All that is missing is a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I’m sure they’ll be arriving any minute.

My funny valentine…

Forever a romantic, I am a valentine’s fan. As much as I love the mushy stuff the chances of my soppy side being indulged are slim. Nevertheless I have come up with a lovey dovey wish list just in case a certain someone is paying attention.

I’m more into quirky, thoughtful gifts than grand gestures or your standard valentine’s day fair. With that in mind I picked out a handful of items I’d love to receive & a spattering of things I’d choose to give.

Putting a twist on the traditional are these his & hers floral offerings. White flowers are guaranteed to have me swooning, so white roses seem appropriate. Orchids strike me as both sexy & romantic. This black variety hits a chord with me.

My week in pictures….

Excuse my absence, last week was packed with ALL the things. I headed to edinburgh on Tuesday to deliver some presentations. These were critical, possibly game changing lectures & I don’t mind admitting my stress levels wee soaring. After a tough first session the reception warmed up & I was a hit.

I had to present over three days, which necessitated finding somewhere to stay. Luckily I found an amazing rental flat on rose st. The location was perfect & the flat itself was lovely. Highlight was absolutely the massive shower, so good for unwinding after a hard day’s work.

All work & no fun does, as they say make for a dull ly. With that in mind I took advantage of being in my favourite man’s city. We had a glass bottle or two of wine & delighted in each others company. I also managed to squeeze in catch up with my friend & kindred spirit, Aidan.
It was a highly successful trip.

As always, edinburgh was looking spiffing. I snapped a few of shots of vistas that took my fancy.

The rest of the week was taken up with my fur babies. I nipped through to Mum’s to look after my poodle family. Coco & her son D’artagnan are gorgeous if a little hyper, but were little darlings for me.

On Saturday I was wowed by the most amazing sunset. I really do love these vibrant natural displays. There was more wow on Sunday when I was reunited with my beautiful Bronan.

I’ll conclude with some random pictures of things that pleased through out the week.

There is a rose in Spanish Harlem….

I nipped into town yesterday in a second opinion & random chat capacity. It was pleasing to get out & about in the world after a week of being mostly at home. Likewise it felt good to put done make up on & try some funky accessories.

I have been oggling flower crowns on other people’s head for ages. I finally took the plunge with this luscious red beauty. I am completely smitten, the search for my next crown has already commenced.

I am well & truly sick of winter, so I busted out this amazing jungly print maxi to brighten up my day. I got this dress for my Australia trip & I haven’t had it on since. I’ve no idea as I love everything about it.

I was trying out a new angle on this dress with my favourite belt. Unfortunately, it’s a little too big for me now. I shall have to fashion myself another notch before donning it again. I took a few snaps sans belt too. I’m keen on both looks. What do you think?

Walking the dog….

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of taking Seb for another walk. I was joined of course by Seb’s Mummy & my darling Bil bob. We all had a really good carry on and the main man got a lovely long walk.

It was very cold, but the rain held off until just before we got back in the car. I opted for my standard winter strategy of layers. I have always been a tad cautious of horizontal stripes due to their notorious widening reputation. However, my mum bought me this vest top & I rather like it. That’s one more reason for me to ignore all those stupid fashion rules!

You can’t see them clearly in the pictures, but I was also wearing these amazing Asos poodle earrings.

Walking in a winter wonderland…

Yesterday was the kind of day I love. It was cold, but dry & the sun was shining bright. The perfect day for a wee winter wander with my best friend. At the end of our walk lay the fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, which happens to be one of favourite places. We went in to check out the Alasdair Grey exhibit, which is excellent, go see it!

Obviously with snow on the ground I needed to wrap up warm & some lingering pain made comfort a priority. I also wanted to look rather nice & happily, I think I accomplished all three.

Faux fur coat – Primark
Scarf – Macy’s

This amazing faux fur (picked up
for a snip in the sales) teemed with my giant scarf & cost arm warmers protected me from the icy weather. A simple black top & leggings had ease covered. Which left the perking up to this beautiful floral print duster coat. All three components did their job perfectly. I felt splendid.

Our walk was so pretty that I can’t resist sharing a few snaps. If you’re local, Kelvingrove park is worth braving the cold for.

Paint your love all over my world….

It’s been a rough week & I’ve failed entirely to get out of Jammies. Hence, no exciting outfit posts. I have however created some rather lovely nail designs. So, in lieu of a startlingly original outfit, I give you my delightful nails.

2015/01/img_1646-0.jpg
These are OPI lacquer wraps. They’re stick on wraps made from real nail polish, so they look better & last longer. I love them.

2015/01/img_1663-1.jpg
These are all me & some nail tape. A little colour helps when you feel crap & it’s minus 5 outside.

2015/01/img_1702-0.jpg
I’m currently sporting this manicure, which is a pretty classic design for me. This one was all free hand & I’m pretty chuffed with the results.

Spoonies explained..

I used a term in a post last week that garnered some questions. Spoon theory is a model I am incredibly familiar with, but I forget that not everyone is. So, I thought I’d give the theory & it’s origins.

The term was originally coined by Christine Miserandino in response to a friend’s question about what having lupus feels like. Miserandino explained that the conversation took place at dinner & she used what she had to hand in her metaphor. Hence, spoons became her unit of measurement. She asked her friend to consider that each daily activity (including the very basic, washing, dressing, eating) required a certain number of spoons (energy)to complete. Whilst a healthy person will usually have unlimited spoons, a person dealing with chronic illness or disability will have varying quantities of ‘spoons’ each day. As a result a chronically ill person must carefully calculate a day’s activities in advance in order to avoid running out of spoons before the end of the day. When a person has used all their spoons they are no longer capable of much more than resting. So, in effect, life with a chronic illness becomes a constant balancing act of tasks the must be done against spoons available to do them.

There you have it, an introduction to spoon theory. I am aware it’s not a particularly cheery topic, as a sweetner I offer you some cute pictures of my darling boy, Bronan.

Step into my office, baby ….

I had a fairly important meeting last week & whilst I don’t really do corporate, I did want to look smart. I opted for this colourful, but almost conservative look.

Unfortunately I hated every single picture taken of this outfit, but have opted for the least offensive. Note the big, fat side bun, a recent innovation I’m enjoying.

Bag – Accesorize

This is my go to presentation bag as it fits my NetBook & everything else I need. I also love it’s giant tassel. The only downside is once it’s all in there it weighs a tonne.

Everything I touch is turning to gold….

I haven’t shared my nails with you in a while, so I thought I’d knock up quick post with some recent designs.

The first was for Lauren’s Art Deco 30th. I ran out of time & spoons for the design I was planning, but my gold nail tape came to the rescue. Tape is much quicker & easier than hand painting straight lines. I still think the more time consuming technique would have looked better, though. What do you think?

Next up, my current look. My lovely friend Pamela gave my Chanel’s classic Rouge Noir at xmas. This polish is divine & does not require much embellishment. I kept it simple with some copper additions.
