I can see clearly now….

After fumbling around in a blur for far too long I have finally gotten myself some new glasses. My last beautiful pair of spectacles met their demise at the hands (paws) of my mum’s dog Coco.

The charming culprit.                Her victims.

In the aftermath of this shocking act of destruction I had been forced to rely on an aged pair of glasses with an old (& useless prescription). All of this leads to the grand unveiling of my amazing new specs.

Glasses – Red or Dead

I’m so into the 50’s style. I love what they do to my face, but by far my favourite feature is the ‘eyebrows’, they are magnetic & changeable. The glasses come with three different pairs of eyebrows each a different colour & shape. The novelty of changing my glasses to match outfits or my mood is yet to wear off. Of course it is also rather helpful to be able to see properly again. It’s safe to say I am more than a little bit in love with them.

This style is limited edition, so swoop in fast if you’re a fan.

Take from me, my lace….

Last weekend a sunny day lured me into a window shopping trip with sister. My darling sibling wanted to check out some luxury items, so we took a wander around Frasers & scoped out their designer offerings. She actually really wanted to investigate some Louboutins, but there were a complete lack of the iconic shoes. Disappointed, we moved on to a little high street sale rummaging. We both did well in sticking with the looking not buying position until we made the mistake of entering Primark.
The weather & their summer stock conspired against us, we both left with armfuls of bright, funky seasonal pieces. At Primark prices it is just too hard to resist.

Shopping done we headed to one of my favourite haunts to snap some photos. This beautiful red sandstone building is home to The Polo Lounge, Glasgow’s best gay club. I have been enjoying its architecture, atmosphere & beverages for longer than I care to admit. This shoot (ha) sparked an idea to take my blog pics at favourite spots around the city. Stay tuned.

My lace skater had its debut for this outing. I loved it when I saw it on the website, but when it arrived I was uncertain. However once I got it one, I was swooning over it again. I added a belt & some contrasting red bits and felt I rocked it.

I also have some adorable new glasses (more on them soon), which finished off this look perfectly.

Summer in the city….

Today I found myself with no commitments & pain free body. When I opened my curtains to discover a beautiful day, I abandoned my housework plans & decided to have a date with my city. There are so many amazing things about living in Glasgow not least the wide range of museums & galleries. I love the fact that all our museums are free meaning everyone can experience art, history & curiosities. Today I decided to take a wander round The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).
GOMA is housed in the most beautiful building. It’s worth a visit purely for the intricate ceilings, bold columns & delicate domed glass. Of course is also home to some wonderful art.

At the moment the main gallery downstairs has a striking exhibit by Allksandra Domanovic called ‘Things to Come’. Her huge pieces examine the marginalised representation of woman in popular science fiction. The sculptural prints use images from films such Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus & Gravity. These films deviate from the usual female roles in cinema, namely, wife, mother or victim.

Anything with a feminist slant will always appeal to me. I also loved the scale of each piece & the use of transparent mounting. This was my first experience of Domanovic’s work & I look forward to seeing more.

Upstairs in Gallery 2 there is an exciting interactive exhibit names ATELIER PUBLIC#2. The public are invited to make their own art with the materials provided. The result is fabulous. The submissions are varied, from comedic to inspirational, autobiographical to commemorative . There is a startling array of nationalities on view, but some of the displays are undeniably Glaswegian.

After my cultural sojourn I satisfied my retail needs. I toured some vintage & charity shops. Vintage is another thing that Glasgow specialises in. The city has a huge array of second hand offerings. I enjoy a good rummage through the rails. Finding something perfect is such a thrill. I used to find it difficult to uncover plus size items, but find both vintage boutiques & bog standard charity shops have lots to choose from now. I am very pleased with today’s finds.
I was flying solo today & so had no one to take my picture. Therefore I had to resort to the dreaded mirror selfie to give you peek at my new orange maxi. I am so ready for summer.

Before heading home I picked up a few naughty items, which I’m hoping will make this weekend go with bang. Roll on Friday.

Wrap me up….

I had a very busy weekend & a fairly packed week, so a little retail therapy was required to unwind. As usual, when I am out to buy, I can find nothing I really want. So after an almost failed wander around the shops (I did pick up a pair of cute blue flats) I decided to bury my disappointment in a yummy dinner. My only hurdle was convincing my darling sister to indulge in a calorie laden dinner, but turns out she didn’t take much persuading. Belly full, I returned home & had a wee look online. ASOS came to the rescue once again, with a gorgeous leather look biker jacket & cute lace skater dress on sale with 60% off. With both my shopping & food cravings satisfied I popped off to bed content.

Of course we managed to squeeze in a little photo shoot before heading home. This week we got all posey in a car park. We are so glamorous. We had an audience this week which is always amusing. I wonder what folks think we’re taking all these pictures for.

This outfit was a recycled from Sunday as I was too lazy to put anything else together. I’ve had this dress for years; I go through cycles of loving and then hating it. It is currently back in favour. I do like a wrap dress, but think you have to be a wee bit careful as they can easily look a bit mumsy. I funked it up with my most favourite leggings. They’re woolly & warm whilst also being beautiful. I don’t think I’ll get another winter out of them, which makes me very sad. If anyone has seen any similar anywhere, please let me know!

You’re the one for me fatty…

I know this is a terrible mirror selfie, but I loved this outfit so much that I decided to go with it. Until recently I would have been scared to wear something like this. I used to feel very self-conscious in anything this form fitting. At the end of last year I took a trip to Australia to see my beautiful niece & experienced a revelation. The heat out there made it impossible for me to stick to my usual rules. So, I wore tighter, shorter, sleeveless clothes and guess what? I liked what I saw in the mirror. I felt great and I vowed not to go back to hiding when I get home.
If you’re on the larger side and think you have to stick with loose clothes or loads of layers, I’m here to tell you different. Embrace your curves. Branch out, try new shapes. Don’t be afraid to show your arms or legs. You are hot. Enjoy your body and your clothes.

Anyway, I love wearing bold colours. The clashing primary colours of this outfit make me very happy. I’m also partial to wide neck line of this top, it seems to work with my broad shoulders. I often feel bulky in that area, but this shape makes me feel a teeny bit more dainty.
