Summer lovin…

It’s wedding season again & this year scotland even has the weather for it. Summer weddings are so much more fun when you can have some fizz in the sun. The rising temperatures also make cute floaty dresses an option. I have a couple of weddings to attend in upcoming months, so I’ve put together a wee collection of wedding guest attire.

Obviously, me being me, I don’t want any boring formal wear. Thus I’ve been scouring the summer lines for wedding suitable dresses that I can still feel myself in. I don’t have a specific look, I tend to dip into lots of different styles because I’m too random to commit to just one. The common thread is often being a little on the weird side & never blending into background. Luckily, the high street has plenty to offer that fits the bill.

Lindy Bop are always a good first stop on the search for a fancy dress. I love their retro styles & funky prints. I’ve yet to wear one of their creations that didn’t garner a million compliments. My top pick is this amazing jungle print 50’s piece. You couldn’t fail to feel like a starlet in it.

Keeping with the 50’s theme, but giving a slightly more sedate impression is this beauty. It’s basically an LBD with a little extra magic.

How wouldn’t want to be adorned in starlit woodland love?

Coast is one of those shops that always has a few gems hidden amongst the predictable. This dress is one of those sparkling finds. I love the light, flouncy layers, I bet it looks amazing on the dance floor.

Florals are standard affair for June weddings, but turn up the colour volume & they really come to life.

This wrap number from Lovedrobe would be perfect for drinks & canapés in the grounds of any luxe wedding venue. If you’re looking something more unique Elvi have you covered. This is is the prettiest jumpsuit I’ve ever seen. Flirty, floaty & graced with a cape. It’s the superhero of nuptial fashion.

I couldn’t do a dress guide without including my current colour fad. I am digging everything orange this summer & this tea dress is not the exception. It’s so fresh & vivid. The cut outs add a little sex appeal whilst remaining subtle enough to be worn in a church. Asos have knocked it out of the park again.

If I can’t exclude my flavour of the month it would certainly be remiss not to my mention true colour love; red. You can never have too many red dresses. I can see absolutely no cons to this particular example. The lace is so delicate, the fluted sleeves are divine & that v neck is just deep enough. Asos are on a roll.

The future’s bright, the future’s orange…

The sun is not messing around. This past couple of weeks we have had all the sun all the time. So much so that I’ve basically had to start buying beach wear. I’m not complaining, (well not much, I am too hot & fainty) it is nice to feel sun on my peely wally skin. It won’t tan, but my freckles will go mental.

On Friday I took a wee drive to Balloch National Park with my Sister, Dad & baby nephew. It was proper hot (26 degrees, in Scotland this is a heat wave), so I opted for my super summer dress. It’s light & bright and I love it. I picked it up on a whim whilst buying broccoli & cat food in tesco. I also ended up buying 3 nail polishes & flamingo pen, which is exactly why I need to do my food shopping online.

Anyway, we had a lovely walk & lunch by Loch Lomond. My dress kept me fresh & funky throughout. I think my yellow kick is over because lately everything that catches my eye is orange. I’m juicy, so it suits me.

Unfortunately I didn’t realise you could see my black knickers until I looked at these pictures. Hey ho, I’ll wear orange pants next time.

Oh & yes that is a Pro Choice badge. On Friday Ireland voted to repeal the 8th & I could not be happier. Another stride for women’s (& everyone with a uterus) rights facilitated by courageous women who would not give up.

The bigger, the better…

I’ve had a busy week. My days have been shared between being sick as a dog and being blissfully happy. Ideally I’d have forgone the first few days of stomach misbehaviour, but a few days glorious days with my tiniest nephew definitely made up for it. Anyway, both kept me busy & left me short on blogging time. Thus, I give you, another quickie.

This week I’m shouting about statement earrings. I have a bunch of ear piercings and vacillate between loving & neglecting my earring collection. I am very much on an oversized kick at the moment. If it’s dangly, chunky or brightly coloured I’m into to it. I feel so much more dressed up when I hook a giant decoration on my ear.

The only trouble I’m having is finding designs that everyone doesn’t have. As much as I love those big tassel earrings, they are just everywhere. Regular readers may have noticed that I like to put my own twist on things. Luckily for me I managed to find these beauties without breaking the bank.

Oh & yes that is another sneaky Nyx purchase. I can’t resist their liquid suede range, especially when the shade perfectly matches my nails.

Just a girl in a t-shirt…

On Monday night I finally made it out of house. I’ve been having a fairly bad flair and struggled to do anything at all last week. With the pain a bit more manageable & a brand new dress to wear I was excited to step out.

Cinema & sushi night with my sister is an enjoyable, but low impact excursion. It’s perfect for when I’m not feeling tip top. As is this t shirt dress. It’s super comfy & cosy whilst also being beautifully cut. The vivid print is just what is needed to chase away the January gloom.  In short it’s effortlessly perfect.

I also tried out some new slap. Barry M is one of my current make up favs. I’m absolutely loving this range of metallic lip paints & their strobing cream has ousted every other highlighter in my make up bag.

Matte me up in Allure.

Strobe cream in Galactic.

After a week of jammies & greasy hair I felt pretty good. A thorough catch up with my sis & a giant Diet Coke left me feeling much improved.

Incidentally, we saw Darkest Hour. Gary Oldman was great, but the film was only ok. If you know anything of Churchill you probably won’t appreciate this portrayal of him as the ordinary people’s hero. I wouldn’t rush to see it.

Autumn wish list…

Apparently today is the first official day of autumn. I know it’s a bit of a cliche, but this really is my favourite season. I love all the rich colours, cosy fabrics & layers. Since the weather has definitely turned it seemed the right time to investigate what delights the A/W high st collections have in store.

As much as I love the crisp, chilly autumn weather, as often as not, in Glasgow it’s just cold & wet. Hence, I want cosy knits & warm fabrics. Given how dreary the weather is, I also need vivid colours. Yellow, orange & red tones appear to be catching my eye most.

I’m liking the idea of my old favourite the skater in soft denims & flannels. Jumpers that don’t make me frumpy, layering t shirt dresses or over sized shirt dresses with cardis, leggings & boots. Basically I want easy to wear, but still funky af.

Last, but not least I want velvet (I always want velvet) for that fancy winter look. Dramatic hemlines & a bit of lace are on the tick list, along with pretty duster coats to keep me from freezing. In a nut shell I want to look hot, but feel like I’m wearing jammies. I’ve a coined a phrase for this; comfort luxe.

There you have it. All the autumn/winter pieces that my heart desires. Now, it’s time for me to start researching outfits of s spookier nature.

That girl is strange no question…

It temporarily spring in Glasgow. I say it’s temporary as rain is forecast from 2pm tomorrow until always & forever. Nevertheless it was a beautiful weekend. Unfortunately I missed every second of it because I have been the most nauseous person on the planet. When the sun came out again today, I felt it necessary to capture at least a few blessed rays. Thus despite feeling yuck, I ventured out.

I’ll be honest though, I didn’t go far. A quick stop at a local park followed by sushi & film was my big adventure. I tried out this new shirt dress & was pleased with both it’s cuteness & comfort. Comfort is a big thing for me at the moment, given that my body has stopped believing in my right to it.

Dress – Alice & You

The dress was a success, the rest of the night, not so much. The only film showing at the right time was Beauty  & the Beast; it’s shite. Trust me, you don’t need a longer review. Oh & the sushi didn’t even stay in my stomach until the end of the film. You know your film is bad when you’re not even worried about what you’re  missing mid vom.

I know, my face looks grim in these pics, but look how cute my nails are.

I want to be rainbow high…

On Saturday I had the pleasure of going wedding dress shopping with my beautiful sister. Bil & Mum were also in toe to admire & offer opinions.

Wedding dress shopping is rather nice. The troublesome part is my sister looks stunning in just about every dress. Plus as soon as a veil appears I start bubbling. Luckily all spectators were in sync with regards to which dresses were contenders. The bride to be decided there is still more shopping to be done.

So, what did I wear to whitest enviroment in the world? All the colours, of course. I’ve had this rainbow delight for a couple of weeks & have been dying to get it on. It’s a super comfy maxi with the cutest crochet top.

Dress – Simply Be

The colours & the crochet make it feel very summery. Alas, Autumn appears to be upon us in Glasgow, but this will definitely be going in my Australia suitcase, which is in need of cool day dresses.

After shopping we had some lunch in a cosy/cool pub where Bil & I couldn’t resist messing around with the mirrors.

Sweet Charity….

One of my favourite things is finding one off or limited pieces. If I can unearth them for pennies, even better.

It was therefore swell to find this adorable bag in a random wee shop. It stocked the strangest selection of items, but amongst them was this little gem.

I have a feeling it may be the most perfect bag ever made. All those colours, the embroidery & pom poms! I was helpless when faced with those pom poms; I had to take this little one home. In addition to its obvious beauty it has a cross body strap that actually fits over my boobs & despite its diminutive appearance it holds all my essentials.

I have long hankered after a cameo brooch, but my search has proved elusive. That is, until today, when I stumbled upon this perfect specimen. The lavender tones are so unusual & I am completely taken with the art noveauish quality of the girl’s hair. Not bad for 50p. It’s amazing what you can discover if you shuffle through a basket of plastic crap in a charity shop.

And if I needed confirmation that my trawling skills were on point, Bronan gave it. This is the face of a cat who wants my brooch.

Fat Feminist

I have been neglecting my nails of late. Mostly because spoons have been in short supply. I don’t really feel myself with naked nails, so was relieved to carve out some manicure time on Sunday evening.

I really wanted something vibrant & feisty. I think I achieved the desired look.

I’m now in love with my fingers.

Everybody walk the dinosaur…

My photographer & I both had rough weeks. By Friday we were more than ready for a pick me up. The sun lured is outside for a cocktail & the prospect of dinosaurs coaxed us back in.

A hot day calls for something floaty & this shirt dress was just the thing. Paired with a lace effect dress I felt chic, not to mention comfortable.

Leaving the cinema to balmy summer’s night tempted us into a little  blog shoot. I love photos taken in the last gasps of day light. That soft glow works for me.

The dinosaurs were marvellous. As with the others in the franchise Jurassic World seems to be very much on the side of giant lizards. I’m all for a summer blockbuster that’s telling humans to stop fucking with nature.

Last, but not least, a few snaps of my city basking in the summer sun.
