Parklife….

I am dog sitting this week. My brother’s dog, Ringo (I named him) has come to stay. He’s a gorgeous boy. He is very affectionate & loves a good sleep. I love having him and as auntie ly spoils him rotten, he loves being here.

So, today I thought I would combine a trip to the park with a little blog photo shoot. My dear friend billy was my photographer & companion. I think he might enjoy Ringo’s company more than mine.

The weather was fairly pleasant, the sun really wanted to break through, but didn’t always manage. In any case it was warm enough to dispense with jackets & break out a new maxi skirt. I picked up this skirt on my recent charity shop trawl. It appeals to my hippie sensibilities & as I am trying to expand the blue section of my wardrobe, it was a must have. I teamed it up with my favourite Beatles vest & my nude flats. It’s a great comfy, but cute outfit.

I can see clearly now….

After fumbling around in a blur for far too long I have finally gotten myself some new glasses. My last beautiful pair of spectacles met their demise at the hands (paws) of my mum’s dog Coco.

The charming culprit.                Her victims.

In the aftermath of this shocking act of destruction I had been forced to rely on an aged pair of glasses with an old (& useless prescription). All of this leads to the grand unveiling of my amazing new specs.

Glasses – Red or Dead

I’m so into the 50’s style. I love what they do to my face, but by far my favourite feature is the ‘eyebrows’, they are magnetic & changeable. The glasses come with three different pairs of eyebrows each a different colour & shape. The novelty of changing my glasses to match outfits or my mood is yet to wear off. Of course it is also rather helpful to be able to see properly again. It’s safe to say I am more than a little bit in love with them.

This style is limited edition, so swoop in fast if you’re a fan.

Summer in the city….

Today I found myself with no commitments & pain free body. When I opened my curtains to discover a beautiful day, I abandoned my housework plans & decided to have a date with my city. There are so many amazing things about living in Glasgow not least the wide range of museums & galleries. I love the fact that all our museums are free meaning everyone can experience art, history & curiosities. Today I decided to take a wander round The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).
GOMA is housed in the most beautiful building. It’s worth a visit purely for the intricate ceilings, bold columns & delicate domed glass. Of course is also home to some wonderful art.

At the moment the main gallery downstairs has a striking exhibit by Allksandra Domanovic called ‘Things to Come’. Her huge pieces examine the marginalised representation of woman in popular science fiction. The sculptural prints use images from films such Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus & Gravity. These films deviate from the usual female roles in cinema, namely, wife, mother or victim.

20140528-000436.jpg

Anything with a feminist slant will always appeal to me. I also loved the scale of each piece & the use of transparent mounting. This was my first experience of Domanovic’s work & I look forward to seeing more.

Upstairs in Gallery 2 there is an exciting interactive exhibit names ATELIER PUBLIC#2. The public are invited to make their own art with the materials provided. The result is fabulous. The submissions are varied, from comedic to inspirational, autobiographical to commemorative . There is a startling array of nationalities on view, but some of the displays are undeniably Glaswegian.

After my cultural sojourn I satisfied my retail needs. I toured some vintage & charity shops. Vintage is another thing that Glasgow specialises in. The city has a huge array of second hand offerings. I enjoy a good rummage through the rails. Finding something perfect is such a thrill. I used to find it difficult to uncover plus size items, but find both vintage boutiques & bog standard charity shops have lots to choose from now. I am very pleased with today’s finds.
I was flying solo today & so had no one to take my picture. Therefore I had to resort to the dreaded mirror selfie to give you peek at my new orange maxi. I am so ready for summer.

Before heading home I picked up a few naughty items, which I’m hoping will make this weekend go with bang. Roll on Friday.

Isn’t she pretty in pink ?…..

A combination of being rather busy & rather ill has led me to neglect my lovely blog. I finally managed to get out & about this weekend. I even indulged in a little shopping & put some slap on. So, stay tuned for a new outfit post. In the meantime I thought I would do another shoe & accessory post.
First up are these cute irregular choice kitten heels. These shoes are atypical for me due to both their style & colour. A kitten heel is not very me. They’re a little too dainty for my liking. Likewise pink is so not my colour. Having said that, these are adorable shoes. I bought them for an event I attended with my godson. That social circle was very yummy mummy heavy & I wanted to look good whilst also being able to run around with the little ones. Hence, the teeny tiny heel. These have become my important meeting shoes as the ensure I don’t fall over & the cheeky little tortoises always boost my confidence.

Next up is a fabulous gift from my little sister. She brought this gem back from Australia & I adore it. It is an actual orchid preserved in lacquer & used to create a ring. It’s stunning.

And finally, what better to finish on than another pair of irregular choice. In case you hadn’t notice these are my favourite shoe brand ever. This pair combines colour & texture to great effect. The gold & purple brocade combined with the satin ribbon & gorgeous velvet inner add up to really luxurious feeling shoe. Of course the fact that they are utterly beautiful goes without saying.

We’re the colours of the rainbow….

I’ve been ill all week & feeling pretty awful. My outfits have mostly consisted of jammies & those don’t make for a very exciting post. On Saturday I was feeling a little better & ventured out for a couple of hours with my wee sis. If you only know from this blog, it probably seems like Lauren is the only person I ever see. I do actually have friends and a social life. My sister just happens to be my go to photographer & as if take a lot of her pictures too she often features in my blog outings.
This week we just had a quick look in forever 21 as I am desperate to find the perfect biker jacket. I thought my prayers had been answered when I discovered my ideal biker on sale at ASOS. Frustratingly after I ordered it they emailed to say it was out of stock. The search continues.
As you have probably noticed I like colour. This dress is a firm favourite mainly because of its fabulous purple hue. It also happens to be very easy to wear and this week that was definitely a consideration. I never wear one colour when I can wear three, so I added some blue in the form of flats & vest. A splash of red rounded of the outfit.

Wrap me up….

I had a very busy weekend & a fairly packed week, so a little retail therapy was required to unwind. As usual, when I am out to buy, I can find nothing I really want. So after an almost failed wander around the shops (I did pick up a pair of cute blue flats) I decided to bury my disappointment in a yummy dinner. My only hurdle was convincing my darling sister to indulge in a calorie laden dinner, but turns out she didn’t take much persuading. Belly full, I returned home & had a wee look online. ASOS came to the rescue once again, with a gorgeous leather look biker jacket & cute lace skater dress on sale with 60% off. With both my shopping & food cravings satisfied I popped off to bed content.

Of course we managed to squeeze in a little photo shoot before heading home. This week we got all posey in a car park. We are so glamorous. We had an audience this week which is always amusing. I wonder what folks think we’re taking all these pictures for.

This outfit was a recycled from Sunday as I was too lazy to put anything else together. I’ve had this dress for years; I go through cycles of loving and then hating it. It is currently back in favour. I do like a wrap dress, but think you have to be a wee bit careful as they can easily look a bit mumsy. I funked it up with my most favourite leggings. They’re woolly & warm whilst also being beautiful. I don’t think I’ll get another winter out of them, which makes me very sad. If anyone has seen any similar anywhere, please let me know!

Shiny happy people….

I thought since Australia was such a big influence on my new outlook that I’d do one more Brisbane outfit. I’ve had this maxi dress for a few years, but have never managed to get much wear out of it in Glasgow. It’s the sort of garment that requires sunshine, something we are sadly lacking in here. It was one of the first items in my suitcase & I was eager to wear it.

I’ve always been a hippie chick meaning this multi coloured tie dyesque design is right up my street. It has some cute beaded details under the bust & on the straps, which I’m fond of. The halter neck is a gift for those if us who have been blessed in the breast department. It holds them firmly in place giving a great silhouette. The halter does also mean it is a tad too booby, but that’s easily solved by popping a vest underneath.

In short this dress is very bold & funky. Just like me.

Here are some shots from Brisbane. Happy memories.

I stayed at a hotel right in the middle of the city for a few days & I used to eat sushi in this square. You can’t get a proper idea of it from this picture, but it was a gorgeous mix of old & new architecture.

Here comes the sun…..

I don’t want to jinx it, but I think spring might finally have sprung. It was a crisp, fresh day in Glasgow, so I dug out some floral print & headed into town to do some shopping with my sister. I love this dress. The bands of floral pattern is unusual & the colours are so cheerful. It’s the kind of dress that makes me smile.

I paired it with this chunky belt to make the most of my plus size hour glass. i finished the look off with my beloved brogues. They are incredibly comfortable & also pretty damn cute.

I was also sporting this peace necklace, my talented little sister made this & it is so me.

We had lovely wee day visiting a pop up shop in Prince’s sq. The designers didn’t have anything for fatties, but my sister got a stunning Rebecca Torres dress. I was super impressed with how friendly & helpful everyone was. It was a really nice shopping experience.

After puzzling over a levitating street performer we refuelled with some sushi & gab. A yummy end to a delightful day.

I’m going where the sun keeps shining….

I put on a very cute outfit yesterday & planned to have my sister take some pictures whilst we were walking her dog. Unfortunately, Glasgow’s weather thought differently, it poured down the entire time we were out.
So, I thought I’d share an outfit I wore on my recent trip to Brisbane; where the weather can always be replied upon.
I loved the freedom I had in Australia. It was always going to be hot & I had only nice things to do. This meant I could have fun with my clothes. I went for a lot of bright, girly & floaty dresses. This is me enjoying the sun & the view on my brother’s deck. I can’t wait to get back there.

20140303-132549.jpg

I love everything about this dress. It’s from forever 21, (who’s plus size range I would definitely recommended ). I’ve always been a big fan of the dip hem and have been very pleased to see it pop up again. The cut & fabric of this dress means it shows your shape without clinging too much. I always feel very sexy in it. Last, but not least it’s a perfect dreamy blue, just right for bright sunny days.

You’re the one for me fatty…

I know this is a terrible mirror selfie, but I loved this outfit so much that I decided to go with it. Until recently I would have been scared to wear something like this. I used to feel very self-conscious in anything this form fitting. At the end of last year I took a trip to Australia to see my beautiful niece & experienced a revelation. The heat out there made it impossible for me to stick to my usual rules. So, I wore tighter, shorter, sleeveless clothes and guess what? I liked what I saw in the mirror. I felt great and I vowed not to go back to hiding when I get home.
If you’re on the larger side and think you have to stick with loose clothes or loads of layers, I’m here to tell you different. Embrace your curves. Branch out, try new shapes. Don’t be afraid to show your arms or legs. You are hot. Enjoy your body and your clothes.

Anyway, I love wearing bold colours. The clashing primary colours of this outfit make me very happy. I’m also partial to wide neck line of this top, it seems to work with my broad shoulders. I often feel bulky in that area, but this shape makes me feel a teeny bit more dainty.

Skirt – Primark
