All within the smallest treasures…

I am led to believe that little treats can make a big difference when you feel rotten. This is a theory I am more than willing to try out. So, this week I indugled myself with some pretty bits and pieces. I wouldn’t say I’m cured, but my purchases have brought mini bursts of pleasure, which can not be a bad thing.
First up was a classic impluse buy. I was queing up in New Look to buy some christmas gifts & there it was looking all vibrant. I’ve actually wanted a matt lipstick for a while. Ever since I first clapped eyes on Lime Crimes Velveteen, matt has been on my list. Unfortunately I keep finding conflicting information on their animal ethics & so can’t in good conscience buy their rich beautiful lippy. Anyway, turns out I don’t need an premium brand as this New Look offering is really excellent & definitely cruelty free. It’s a rich slightly orangey red, which is deliciously smooth. A bargain that feels & looks great, I’m sold.

Next up is another super bargain. A delightful tartan scarf from Primark. Perhaps the cheapness of these items is actually enhancing their charm. There is something to be said for finding something you love for pocket change. Scarfs are a big part of my winter wardobe, I’m all for an extra layer of cosiness and interest. Tartan has been sadly missing from my neck attire. I am very pleased to have recitified that.

My final treasure is a Lush massage bar. Until recently I wasn’t aware that there was such a thing as massage bar, but now I am their number one fan. It’s basically a block of solid body lotion. It melts as you rub it onto your skin & has textured elements to help massage the muscles. I was capitvated by the Wiccy muscle magic. It’s a heady blend of cinnamon, peppermint, cocoa & shea butter with knobbly aduki beans for extra massage power. The smell is incredible. Although it doesn’t appear on the ingredients list, the overwhelming aroma is aniseed & it’s bliss. I have scar tissue, which seems to dry out really easily, this bar is quickly replenishing the moisture in my skin. Lush claim that the peppermint essential oils will soothe tired & achey muscles, i was dubious about this. Well colour me totally wrong, my achey limbs showed significant improvement after a good rub down. Wiccy magic indeed.

Mellow yellow…

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with my lovely friend Hayley who was visiting Scotland for a few days. I wanted to look good, which led to some serious wardrobe scouring. Buried at the back I found this dress. It’s quite old, but I’ve always rated it. However it was a very tight squeeze the last time i tried to wear it, hence it’s languishing behind the coats. My recent shrinkage meant that it now fits rather well & so, i donned it.

Leopard print in this shade of green is a dream for me. I love the button details & the sheer fabric. In winter I tend to teem it with a black vest & leggings, but as you can see from the picture this still allows a nice silhoutte. I paired my feminine floaty dress with the tough dm type boots for practical reasons & also because i like the contrast. I added the yellow batwing cardi for a pop of colour.

I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, but I do like a ring with a big stone. I have quite the collection of what I refer to as faux enagagement rings. This is one of my favourites. The stone is a gorgeous unusual amber. If someone offered me it whilst down on one knee, I’d probably day yes!

Wishin’ and hopin’….

The festive season is almost upon us & my mind has been pondering the notion of having some fun. Along with the usual seasonal celebrations I also have some important birthdays in December including my fabulous best friend & my darling youngest sibling. My darling sister will be 30 this year & she’s having a big fabulous party. I am determined to go uber luxe for these occasions & with this in mind I have created a party wishlist. Some of these are serious contenders & others are just me dreaming.
I have had hankering for velvet for a while. I’ve always adored it, but it’s popularity has definitely waned in recent years. Wearing velevt never fails to make me feel sexy. It is so tactile & lush. This sleek navy dress screams old school glamour. I have a feeling the side gathering detail will be flattering as hell on my body. I can’t wait to try this on & hopefully strut my gorgeous stuff in it over christmas. I feel a dress this sumptious need some simple show stopping accessories, these Biba earrings certainly fit that bill. Sadly at £1750 they are likely to remain on my wish list.

Layers do it for me especially if one or more of them are sheer. This evans dress is genuis, sparkly gold, sheer, built in cover up. Three big ticks from me. Similarly this layered Elvi top is so simple, yet striking. Elvi is actually a new find for me, so far, i am impressed.
Irregular choice are pretty much the only shoes I want on my feet & this pair are perfect in every way. They are currently sold out, but i am hoping against hope that they come back. How can anything go wrong when you have unicorns on your feet?

Faux fur seems like the obvious choice when playing the luxury bitch. Monsoon’s classic shape & colour make their take it on it a winner for me. I’ll definitely need to try before buying as coats are always a tricky fit with my boobs.
I am actually pinching myself over this Lovedrobe flapper style dress. I can’t believe it is so affordable & available in my size. A futher bonus is that this art deco type design is tailer made for a big event I have later in the year. I am snapping this one up immediatey & calling it fate.IMG_1060.JPG

These are my wild cards. They do not fit with my hollywood starlet theme, yet i can’t prevent myself coveting them. The shoes speak for themselves, what woman in her right mind would not want her feet adorned with these masterpieces? If anyone out there wants to have me at their beck and call those shoes are the key. The poodle clutch is so not me. I don’t go in much for cutesy or pastel. However my Mother happens to have to stunning standard poodles who would turn cruella deville into a dog person. Coco & D’artagnan have captured my heart & simultaneously opened it ip to kitch handbags.
Last but not least is another Elvi piece. Whoever thought up the ‘coatigan’ , I owe you a drink. Bright orange cosy coolness are all things i need in my wardrobe.

Hey, I put some new shoes on….

Unfortunately I am still ill. It’s frustrating & not a lot of fun. It also means that I haven’t been going anywhere other than medical appointments & the corner shop, which accounts for my lack of posts. I finally ventured out today to do a little shopping with my mum. It’s the first day in weeks that I have looked half decent, so I took a little selfie to share.

Almost everything I wore was a huge bargain; god bless 70% off sales. The t-shirt dress is incredibly comfortable & may well be my new favourite casual dress. I wanted to add some grey to my wardrobe now that it’s getting chilly, this works perfectly. The belt is also new & is basically the belt of my dreams. I may well wear it with everything.

My adorable new shoes also arrived today. I could not wait to try them. They jumped straight out of the box and onto my feet. I purchased them online from JustFab. I have been seeing a lot of their ads recently & was curious. Their every pair for £35 struck me as little too good to be true. However I was pleasantly surprised after having a neb. Their heels aren’t really my thing, but I loved their flats & boots. As an introductory offer I got a two pairs of shoes for £35, which is an excellent deal by anyone’s standards. I am totally satisfied with the quality & fit. They also have a large selection of non-leather shoes, which is great for veggies. The small disadvantage is that you have to remember to log in every month & declare if you’re not buying anything, otherwise they charge you (the charge is applied to your account as credit). Other than that I would definitely recommend giving JustFab a bash.

Paint it black…

i am off to a fancy hotel for my friend’s wedding later today. I am looking forward to my little mini escape. Before I jump in the shower I just have time to dash off a quick blog post.

On Friday I finally got to see Cold in July. I highly recommend this film. It is impossible to describe as it starts as one thing & morphs into something else. It has a great cast & brilliant twists. Go see it.

It was drizzly on Friday, but still really stuffy, tricky weather to dress for. I opted for this tunic dress. It’s light and comfortable with some really pretty embroidery. I stayed monochrome with my jewellery, but couldn’t resist pairing my dress with these star print leggings.

Bits & Pieces…

I was going through my clothes trying to clear a little space in my packed wardrobe when I came across a skirt I had forgotten I owned. I’m not sure how I managed to forget this skirt as on discovering it I instantly fell in back in love. So, I immediately changed outfit & wore it to see a movie with my wee sister.

The red kimono I wanted to wear with it was in the washing machine, so I decided I would experiment with some pattern clashing. I quite liked the outcome.

I really love the fish taily detail on the back of this skirt; it makes it a bit more special. I am also infatuated with my new floral print kimono, I bought a size up as I wanted it to be loose & oversized.

20140701-145201-53521332.jpg

I teamed my mismatched clothes with my all-time favourite sandals & tried something new with my hair, which turned out ok, but will need a little practise to perfect.

I wanted to see ‘Cold in July’, but my darling sis was very keen to see ‘Maleficent’. She won the movie debate in the end. It’s a sweet take on a fairy tale, but it’s essentially a kid’s movie, which is really not my thing. Next time I will definitely be choosing.

The whole city is your jewellery box…

I have been home all day doing housework, budgets & baking some cakes, which means I have no exciting outfit to photograph. Instead I am featuring some accessories. I love costume jewellery, but am terrible for wearing something one & the allowing it to languish in my jewellery box for eternity. As part of my mammoth organising spree I tackled said jewellery boxes. I have no pledged to make better use of all the cool pieces I have collected over the years.

I knew I had to have this peely wally necklace the minute I saw it. I was smitten by the Scottish colloquialism & couldn’t escape the fact that it perfectly described me. It’s oft complimented & is an admirable addition to a little black dress.

My serenity prayer bracelet was a gift from my darling friend, Jenna. As I have said previously, I do not practise in religion, but do believe in a god of some kind. Although this is a Christian prayer, I can relate it. I know it has also become associated with AA, but I think it speaks to anyone who is experiencing difficulties. Along with the sentimental value I find this bracelet beautiful. The design is so simple that I can easily be worn every day.

Today’s final pretty thing was a ridiculous bargain. I found it in of all places, Aldi. I went to Aldi for lemons & asparagus. I came home with this beautiful spider. I don’t normally buy my jewellery in budget super markets but, hey, I’m not going to be snobby about it. This big, sparkly spider brooch is amazing. I plan to give him his first outing at a friend’s wedding next week. He can’t wait.

I can see clearly now….

After fumbling around in a blur for far too long I have finally gotten myself some new glasses. My last beautiful pair of spectacles met their demise at the hands (paws) of my mum’s dog Coco.

The charming culprit.                Her victims.

In the aftermath of this shocking act of destruction I had been forced to rely on an aged pair of glasses with an old (& useless prescription). All of this leads to the grand unveiling of my amazing new specs.

Glasses – Red or Dead

I’m so into the 50’s style. I love what they do to my face, but by far my favourite feature is the ‘eyebrows’, they are magnetic & changeable. The glasses come with three different pairs of eyebrows each a different colour & shape. The novelty of changing my glasses to match outfits or my mood is yet to wear off. Of course it is also rather helpful to be able to see properly again. It’s safe to say I am more than a little bit in love with them.

This style is limited edition, so swoop in fast if you’re a fan.

Take from me, my lace….

Last weekend a sunny day lured me into a window shopping trip with sister. My darling sibling wanted to check out some luxury items, so we took a wander around Frasers & scoped out their designer offerings. She actually really wanted to investigate some Louboutins, but there were a complete lack of the iconic shoes. Disappointed, we moved on to a little high street sale rummaging. We both did well in sticking with the looking not buying position until we made the mistake of entering Primark.
The weather & their summer stock conspired against us, we both left with armfuls of bright, funky seasonal pieces. At Primark prices it is just too hard to resist.

20140602-172225.jpg

Shopping done we headed to one of my favourite haunts to snap some photos. This beautiful red sandstone building is home to The Polo Lounge, Glasgow’s best gay club. I have been enjoying its architecture, atmosphere & beverages for longer than I care to admit. This shoot (ha) sparked an idea to take my blog pics at favourite spots around the city. Stay tuned.

My lace skater had its debut for this outing. I loved it when I saw it on the website, but when it arrived I was uncertain. However once I got it one, I was swooning over it again. I added a belt & some contrasting red bits and felt I rocked it.

I also have some adorable new glasses (more on them soon), which finished off this look perfectly.

Isn’t she pretty in pink ?…..

A combination of being rather busy & rather ill has led me to neglect my lovely blog. I finally managed to get out & about this weekend. I even indulged in a little shopping & put some slap on. So, stay tuned for a new outfit post. In the meantime I thought I would do another shoe & accessory post.
First up are these cute irregular choice kitten heels. These shoes are atypical for me due to both their style & colour. A kitten heel is not very me. They’re a little too dainty for my liking. Likewise pink is so not my colour. Having said that, these are adorable shoes. I bought them for an event I attended with my godson. That social circle was very yummy mummy heavy & I wanted to look good whilst also being able to run around with the little ones. Hence, the teeny tiny heel. These have become my important meeting shoes as the ensure I don’t fall over & the cheeky little tortoises always boost my confidence.

20140526-194925.jpg

Next up is a fabulous gift from my little sister. She brought this gem back from Australia & I adore it. It is an actual orchid preserved in lacquer & used to create a ring. It’s stunning.

20140526-200351.jpg                   20140526-200338.jpg

And finally, what better to finish on than another pair of irregular choice. In case you hadn’t notice these are my favourite shoe brand ever. This pair combines colour & texture to great effect. The gold & purple brocade combined with the satin ribbon & gorgeous velvet inner add up to really luxurious feeling shoe. Of course the fact that they are utterly beautiful goes without saying.
