My week in pictures…

It’s been a fairly rough week filled with more Dr’s than I would have liked. There were some amusing moments & cool snaps, hence I am sharing my hospital expoilts.

It all started last Monday with a pain in my lower back. By Tuesday it had spread around my side & all over the right side of my stomach. The pain had intensified to such an extent that I had to see my gp. Dr suspected possible upper uti infection, but wanted to rule out pancreatitis,so off to the hospital I was sent. Not, however, before I had to pee in a tiny bottle & was given two injections in my bum. One was for pain, which had no effect. There other for nausea, which was entirely counter productive as shortly after leaving the surgery I began impressively vomiting.

I founf myself waiting to be assessed in hospital. For some reason I was surrounded by babies & their parents watching me repeatedly throw up into those horrid little cardboard hats. Once again it’s a round of peeing in various receptacles & being prodded by numerous medical personal. The result being I was admitted with probable kidney infection.

After another two injections in my arse (their is no dignity in being ill) my behind was now feeling a little tender & turning some vibrant colours. My nurse was unable to get any blood despite trying both arms & hands. A Dr was then summoned to attempt to draw blood. Much to my embarrassment the Dr who arrived is already known to me. I had a fling with him many years before. So, I find myself lying in a hospital gown, groaning whilst a very attractive surgeon who has seen me naked pokes me with needles. Only I could end up in the medical care of an old shag.

Anyway, blood is finally collected & kidney infection confirmed. I stay in hospital for a further day 1/2 for Iv  anti biotics & pain relief. On Thursday I walk free & consider my ordeal over.

I spent the rest of the week pacing around as kidney pain is worse at rest. I tried my best to rest & even ventured out with my sis at the weekend. We were treated to perfect spring weather. It felt good to be out in the fresh air surrounded by new blooms.

As this week began all felt well. I was still a little tender, but otherwise much better. I probably over did it catching up with house work & errands on Monday. Meaning that by dinner time I was exhausted & needed to have a nap. And, that’s the last thing I remember until I came round on the hall floor in dark. My face hurt & I was very confused, but otherwise unharmed. My first instinct was just to go to bed, but after consultation with my sister I realised I had to return to hospital. Que scans, X-rays & a night of observation. Luckily I only have a mild concussion and a bashed up nose. I had no encounters with long lost lovers and I pray I have reached my hospital limit for quite a while.

Oh & my squinty nose is real sexy.

Fat Feminist

I have been neglecting my nails of late. Mostly because spoons have been in short supply. I don’t really feel myself with naked nails, so was relieved to carve out some manicure time on Sunday evening.

I really wanted something vibrant & feisty. I think I achieved the desired look.

I’m now in love with my fingers.

Snow is falling…

I’m diving into the festive spirit this year. Love & sparkle & food & presents are exactly what I need. I’d like to finish this dodgy year on a high point & so, I am immersing myself in all things joyous.

First up, my nails. I don’t mind telling you my normally pretty talons have been looking a tad shabby of late. Not anymore; they are now shiny & bejewelled. How can my joy quota not be upped when I have diamontes shimmering on my fingers.

Unfortunately doing your nails whilst incredibly sleep deprived can sometimes make your snowflakes go a wee bit spider webby. It matters not, they’re still cute & I am one step closer to Santa.

Hey baby, can you bleed like me…

So, Halloween is nearly upon us. I love a bit spooky fun, but this year I’ll be having a fairly quiet night. I have opted to watch some scary movies & hand out sweets to any wee trick or treaters that knock on my door. This means I won’t have an opportunity to dress up, but I do plan to tart my house up with creepy decorations. I also couln’f resist the temptation to give myself a seasonal manicure.

It’s been a while since I’ve done any real nail art; these nails have definitely got me back in the mood. I kept it fairly simple, but I’m chuffed with the results. I hope you all have a weird & whacky Halloween.

My week in pictures….

Excuse my absence, last week was packed with ALL the things. I headed to edinburgh on Tuesday to deliver some presentations. These were critical, possibly game changing lectures & I don’t mind admitting my stress levels wee soaring. After a tough first session the reception warmed up & I was a hit.

I had to present over three days, which necessitated finding somewhere to stay. Luckily I found an amazing rental flat on rose st. The location was perfect & the flat itself was lovely. Highlight was absolutely the massive shower, so good for unwinding after a hard day’s work.

All work & no fun does, as they say make for a dull ly. With that in mind I took advantage of being in my favourite man’s city. We had a glass bottle or two of wine & delighted in each others company. I also managed to squeeze in catch up with my friend & kindred spirit, Aidan.
It was a highly successful trip.

As always, edinburgh was looking spiffing. I snapped a few of shots of vistas that took my fancy.

The rest of the week was taken up with my fur babies. I nipped through to Mum’s to look after my poodle family. Coco & her son D’artagnan are gorgeous if a little hyper, but were little darlings for me.

On Saturday I was wowed by the most amazing sunset. I really do love these vibrant natural displays. There was more wow on Sunday when I was reunited with my beautiful Bronan.

I’ll conclude with some random pictures of things that pleased through out the week.

Everything I touch is turning to gold….

I haven’t shared my nails with you in a while, so I thought I’d knock up quick post with some recent designs.

The first was for Lauren’s Art Deco 30th. I ran out of time & spoons for the design I was planning, but my gold nail tape came to the rescue. Tape is much quicker & easier than hand painting straight lines. I still think the more time consuming technique would have looked better, though. What do you think?

Next up, my current look. My lovely friend Pamela gave my Chanel’s classic Rouge Noir at xmas. This polish is divine & does not require much embellishment. I kept it simple with some copper additions.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

I have been so on top of organising Christmas this year that there hasn’t been much call for going into town or rushing around shops. Consequently I have missed all the seasonal sparkle & Christmas tunes. In the past week I have rectified that & now feel thoroughly festive.
Having seen the delights of both Glasgow & Edinburgh’s city centre I set to work on creating my own little joyeux noël. With the tree up, presents wrapped, lights festooned & glitter candles in abundance there was only one thing left to do, Christmas manicure!

This is the first of many festive nail
designs. I’m rather pleased with these, I hope you like them too.

Oh flower of Scotland….

It’s been a sombre weekend for many of us in Scotland. I am devastated about the referendum results. I really felt that an independent Scotland was an opportunity to create a fairer society. I believe passionately in the tenants of socialism & I think the yes campaign embodied those ideals.

Disappointment at the result was compounded by the loyalist thugs taking over Glasgow’s city centre on Friday. Add to that MP’S backtracking on their election promises & I was left despondent.

Having said that, I still have hope. Yes voters remain politically engaged. SNP have around 10000 new members. Saturday saw yes voters peacefully gathering in George sq & making donations to food banks. Organisations such as we are the 45% have sprung up & are gaining huge support. It seems the dream is not over. There are like-minded people out there & they are determined to protect the vulnerable & establish a movement for a better Scotland.

So, with all this firing in my mind I felt the best way to express myself was on my nails. So, here you go my first political manicure.

with my red nail polish…

Painted nails have always been my thing. Growing up, I never saw my mum without immaculate nails. In fact many of my friends should to think she was very glamorous in part due to her beautifully manicured & painted nails. So, I suppose that’s where I caught the bug. Gorgeous nails are a big part of my personal brand.
Now, pretty as my hands are, my darling little sister has taken manicures to the next level. Her nail art is amazing (you can check it out here). Her creativity has inspired me & I invested in some nail brushes. I am far from skilled, it’s going to take some practise, but here are a few of my first experiments.
