Who you gonna call?……

On a search for a nice place to walk Seb my sister & I stumbled upon this beautiful park. It’s local, but we had no idea how lovely it was. Anyway having found such a gem, we obviously launched an impromptu blog photo shoot.

This outfit was actually flung together in an I must leave the house in 10 minutes rush, but I think it’s a winner. A perfect cute sunny day outfit.

I found the skirt in a cool 2nd hand shop in Glasgow’s southside. The print & colours appeal to my hippy dippy side & also pairs great with my favourite cardi. Topped off with my ghostbusters t shirt it makes for an easy to wear ensemble for a chilled day.

My week in pictures

It’s been another crazy week. As I write this I am refuelling (with blood) & very much enjoying the opportunity to lie still for an extended period. The exhaustion is totally worth it. I’ve had a brilliant time.  There has been a lot of wedding shopping (my brother’s, not mine), some peachy sister time, loads of fur babies & even a mermaid.

There was chocolate munching, retro purchases, beauty treats & a beautiful manicure from my nail wizard sister ( her original design)

As if that wasn’t enough, I also jumped on a train to visit my darling Lisa & her beautiful boy. The weather was glorious, which allowed us to have an epic picnic on the beach. Last, but very far from least, was dinner & cocktails with my most favourite man.

I hope your week has been as lovely as mine. If not, you have a sunny weekend to make up for it!

Sitting on the dock of a bay….

On Thursday we nipped over to Braehead to pick up a birthday present for our darling billy. The sun was beginning to go down & the Clyde looked rather pretty. So, of course we popped out for some blog photos.

We are starting to get some brighter days in glasgow, but it’s still really cold.  This jumper dress is perfect for keeping warm. I love the bright colours  & how incredibly comfortable it is.

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time….

Merry Christmas!
I hope you all had a wonderful time. It’s been a bumper yultide for me & mine, loads of food, fizz, family & friends. I love the festive season & the opportunities it provides to let those you love know how much they mean to you. By the wonder of facetime I even got to watch my niece open her presents in brisbane, nothing can beat the look on her face as she discovers she’s been given all the things she’s been hoping for.

Talking of presents, I have also been a very lucky girl. My family & friends proved once again how well they know me by buying me the perfect gifts. There are a lot of ticks on my wish list & I am one happy lady.

First from my wish list was an early xmas treat from the lovely people at Bonmarche. As you know I desperately wanted something gorgeous & velvet to adorn myself in, this dress was exactly right. The midnight blue colour is so perfect, the fabric so soft & the fit oh so flattering. I felt amazing in this dress.

I have actually never shopped at Bonmarche before, but had heard good things, about their plus size dresses in particular. After perusing their website I suspect that some of their ranges are aimed at a slighter more mature woman. Having said that I saw several dresses that I would rock and some faux fur jackets that are to die for. Considering I not only looked super sexy in this dress, but it was also as comfortable as my birthday suit, I will definitely be adding the Bonmarche website to my bookmarks.

Bonmarche also sent me some pretty accessories, which will be featuring in another excellent post incredibly soon.

Another slightly early xmas present arrived in a suspiciously shoe box shaped package. Sure enough when I tore it open nestled inside were the most beautiful shoes ever created. Someone clearly read this blog & liked the idea of having me at their beck and call. I am madly in love with these beauties. Should they ever change the law, I may well marry them.

Irregular Choice

Last, but not least my darling sister got me this shiny & sleek clutch that she spied on my wish list. Lauren also cooked us all a delicious Christmas dinner, including the cutest dessert ever amp; clearly my little sis has been hiding her culinary skills. Now that her secret’s out she can expect me over for dinner much more often.

All of my people gave me marvellous pressies & I appreciate every single one. However, the finest thing in my life is undoubtedly belonging to my warm, loyal & hilarious family. The fact that I’ve been able to add to that family with my magnificent friends probably makes me more fortunate than I deserve to be. So, I’ll leave you with some snaps of our Christmas because I believe this is what it’s all about.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

I have been so on top of organising Christmas this year that there hasn’t been much call for going into town or rushing around shops. Consequently I have missed all the seasonal sparkle & Christmas tunes. In the past week I have rectified that & now feel thoroughly festive.
Having seen the delights of both Glasgow & Edinburgh’s city centre I set to work on creating my own little joyeux noël. With the tree up, presents wrapped, lights festooned & glitter candles in abundance there was only one thing left to do, Christmas manicure!

This is the first of many festive nail
designs. I’m rather pleased with these, I hope you like them too.

Mellow yellow…

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with my lovely friend Hayley who was visiting Scotland for a few days. I wanted to look good, which led to some serious wardrobe scouring. Buried at the back I found this dress. It’s quite old, but I’ve always rated it. However it was a very tight squeeze the last time i tried to wear it, hence it’s languishing behind the coats. My recent shrinkage meant that it now fits rather well & so, i donned it.

Leopard print in this shade of green is a dream for me. I love the button details & the sheer fabric. In winter I tend to teem it with a black vest & leggings, but as you can see from the picture this still allows a nice silhoutte. I paired my feminine floaty dress with the tough dm type boots for practical reasons & also because i like the contrast. I added the yellow batwing cardi for a pop of colour.

I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, but I do like a ring with a big stone. I have quite the collection of what I refer to as faux enagagement rings. This is one of my favourites. The stone is a gorgeous unusual amber. If someone offered me it whilst down on one knee, I’d probably day yes!

Sun is shining, the weather is sweet ….

I can hardly believe I’ve been in Glasgow this past week. The sun has had his hat on everyday & temperatures have been soaring (for Scotland). In truth it’s been a little too hot for me, but I have been rather firmly told not to complain.

Having spent the day rushing around in the heat, I was ready to cool down. Seeing a film with my sister was the perfect solution.
I downed a pint of ice water whilst waiting for Lauren to arrive & then we headed out to find a spot for photos. We settled on the ‘running clock’, I’m not sure if it has an official title, but that’s the moniker I have given it.

The weather was reflected in my outfit. I opted for this vibrant yellow pencil skirt teemed with my harmless shark vest. Both are Primark bargains. The vest is actually from men’s wear, but I found it amusing & it fits fine. I bared my legs for the first time this year & it felt really great. However I chickened out of exposing my flabby, scarred arms and donned my current favourite cardigan. It’s very light, so works well for summer.

We saw a film called ‘devil’s knot’, which was excellent. It’s based on the true story of the Memphis 3, three teenagers who were convicted of murder in the early 90’s. The story is shocking and really makes you question the American legal system. I’d highly recommend seeing it.

Queen of my castle…

The weather was kind to us this Easter weekend. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling very good on Friday or Saturday. So, I was delighted to wake up feeling perky on Sunday morning. The plan was to visit Mum for Easter & have a little family fun. We were down two siblings (my darling older brothers), but we still managed to tease the life out of each other. Mum made us some yummy lunch, spoiled us with Easter presents, we all munched some chocolate & had a carry on with Mum’s dogs. It was a lovely day.

We decided just to get Mum a wee egg this year.

On the way home my sis was seeking a cool spot for some blog photographs when I remembered that Mum’s village had a little castle ruin. I wasn’t planning to do any outfit pictures as I wasn’t looking my best, but with such a perfect location, I couldn’t resist. Whilst Lauren & I got busy striking poses, Billy had a little climb.

The castle made a captivating backdrop. I am beginning to think I missed my calling as fashion photographer.

This dress has the honour of being the only item in my wardrobe that requires ironing. Which proves how much I like it as I really don’t do ironing. The colour works so well with ginger locks & with a belt to cinch my waist it gives me a rather nice shape.

In the year of the cat…

Another Thursday brought another night out with my wee sis. This week we were headed to see The grand Budapest hotel, but had some time to spare. So, we had a little impromptu photo shoot by the river Clyde. It was a lot colder than either of us had expected, hence the ‘modelling’ was brief. Luckily my sister managed to get a couple of pictures I was reasonably happy with.

I very rarely like myself in photographs. I don’t enjoy having them taken & for many years avoided being in any snaps. It’s a shame really as there are a lot of special occasions that I have no record of. In particular I regret not having more pictures taken with my niece. I am trying to rectify that now, by photographing almost every minute I manage to spend with her. I think my reluctance to be captured on camera is one of my the few remaining body image hang ups. This blog is helping me address that as I am forced both pose for & share pictures of me. None of which I am ever completely happy with. My personal body positive revolution continues…

Instead of my usual, slightly haphazard wear whatever takes my fancy approach, I actually planned this outfit. I decided on a little bit of a feline theme. I don’t usually do cutesy. In fact adults in overly cute clothes are one of my pet hates. Disney princesses are for children, ladies. However, I did instantly fall in love with this beaded cat vest. I’ve never seen another one like it nor have I ever seen anyone else wearing it, which makes this a perfect piece for me.

This skirt is one my amazing ASOS bargains. I snapped it up in the sale last summer for a fiver. I love the harlequin twist on monochrome. Plus it is an ideal length. As much as I love pencil skirts, they usually cut me off at the worst point on my legs. This skirt is just that little bit shorter, which works so much better for me. I know a bit part of the fat acceptance movement is the ‘fuck flattering ‘train of thought. I am all for this if you it makes you feel good, but for me, there is some styles that I just don’t like my body in.

I added a little bit of colour with the waterfall cardigan & a little tummy help my trusty support leggings. I have about a million pairs of these & really wish they’d do them in a range of colours.

Oh & I continued my kitty theme with this bangle. Another atypical choice for me, but the heart wants what it wants.

Last, but not least, I tried out some more eye transfers. As promised I was much more adventurous. I think these could be really fabulous with some dramatic eye make up for a bight night out.

The film was awesome. You just can’t beat a Wes Anderson movie. My only minor complaint, I wanted way more Bill Murray. Go see it!

You’re the one for me fatty…

I know this is a terrible mirror selfie, but I loved this outfit so much that I decided to go with it. Until recently I would have been scared to wear something like this. I used to feel very self-conscious in anything this form fitting. At the end of last year I took a trip to Australia to see my beautiful niece & experienced a revelation. The heat out there made it impossible for me to stick to my usual rules. So, I wore tighter, shorter, sleeveless clothes and guess what? I liked what I saw in the mirror. I felt great and I vowed not to go back to hiding when I get home.
If you’re on the larger side and think you have to stick with loose clothes or loads of layers, I’m here to tell you different. Embrace your curves. Branch out, try new shapes. Don’t be afraid to show your arms or legs. You are hot. Enjoy your body and your clothes.

Anyway, I love wearing bold colours. The clashing primary colours of this outfit make me very happy. I’m also partial to wide neck line of this top, it seems to work with my broad shoulders. I often feel bulky in that area, but this shape makes me feel a teeny bit more dainty.
